Mad, I'm feeling that it might be following Anna and Artyom after they left Moscow seeing as it said inspired my metro 2033 and 2035 at the end, and it by no means looks like Moscow

Very excited by this!
Also looks open-world. On one hand this is pretty much everything we've wanted and it could be totally amazing if done right, but in today's era of copy-paste open world games with generic repeatable objectives, there's a lot of room to disappoint if they go full Ubisoft.
Still, can't wait to see more, definitely the most exciting part of the presentation.

This. Spoilers for Metro 2035 below.
woop woop:
Yes, this must be it. It's clearly set outside of Moscow - in a rural area that did not experience as much of the nuclear fallout, hence the air is breathable without a gas mask or anything like that. Would be nice to see them on their journey to Vladivostok, but with non-linear levels rather a full open world environment. If we're still playing as Artyom then it's safe to assume the woman in the train is Anna. I'm actually looking forward to this more for the story than anything else right now.
Looks pretty cool, demo is obviously heavily scripted as is the case with these E3 reveals. Will have to wait to see more and judge then. Hopefully it's not full open world, we have enough of that and Metro works best with a bit more structure if you ask me (something a little less linear than Last Light's most open surface chapters would be perfect).

The woman in the train also looked a lot like Anna.

Yep, then it must be set after Metro 2035 (or whatever it'll be in the game canon). And of course, as you pointed out in the chat, the Trans-Siberian Railway leaves no doubts.

So is it just me or did anyone else hear that woman shout "Artyom!" at the end?

Oh, interesting then. I had assumed we'd be in the shoes of Artyom's kid, but I guess they're doing what they did with Last Light again where only one ending is canon. Except this time, it's the ending that's harder to obtain. :P

Twitch had an interview talking about Exodus; no more new gameplay, just talking over the trailer.
It consists of large sandbox areas tied together by linear underground sections to preserve progression. They refer to it as, "Sandbox Survival". Story takes a year, seasons change throughout. Trailer is set in fall.
Some irradiated outdoor areas still require gas masks.
Starts in Moscow, playing as Artyom, "Enlightened" ending is canon. He and a small band of survivors have to leave Moscow and go on a journey of sorts. Anna is the only other character they want to reveal.
Can customize wrist band with indicators (not sure how, he kinda stumbled off topic after he started talking about it), also weapons, like how the Shambler (confirmed name) switches out magazine types.
Some monsters are based off mocap from human actors. Lots of returning and new mutants/monsters, varying by location and climate.
Map seen in trailer encompasses that specific sandbox area the player has access to.
It's mentioned that they have directors and employees entirely dedicated to making interesting and weapons that are mechanically sound.
Also mentioned that the studios have a constantly-live video feed for them to communicate through at a moment's notice.
They close out by answering the interview question of what most highly-requested feature they addressed, and he deferred to the game's extensive customization.

Holy crap, guys! A new Metro!! Am I the only one hyped up to the skies here?! This is exactly what we needed to perhaps light a new spark in the forums, just in the time of need! Wasn't it rather recently that 4A Games confirmed they wouldn't be working on any next metro-game in the near future though? Or has that "near future" actually already passed? It feels like yesterday, man.
I sat staring with wide-open eyes and a huge smile on my face, at the trailer on my cellphone during lunch at work today. All my colleagues were like "D00D wtf are you lookin at?" and I just waved them off without taking my eyes off the screen for a second, haha, and my boss was like "Kids these days.."
And the fact that they used the good ol' "In the house in a heartbeat" from the first trailer brought back sum good flashbacks from 2033 and hypes me up even more! One thing that gets me though - How did they get such a large train working 20 years into the nuclear apocalypse, not to mention the whole friggin railroad??
-Amidst the hype I just came to a realization..... Anna is in the game... F**K! And from the looks of it, we'll be seeing a lot of her.
NOOOOOOOOOO:
ll hate her! Hopefully they'll make her a better character this time around.... or better yet, kill her off

cant wait to wear metro version of exoskeleton (unikom) and traverse Siberia wasteland and wilderness! :D
Also, that's lot amount of QTE and scripted gameplay. Well at least its improvement than other gameplay trailer which ussually shows minimal amount of gameplay or not at all

Most of the rural areas and anything that was far from the cities/other targets for nuclear bombing survived the war with not as much damage, and thus suffered less from nuclear fallout; this is also the case in some of the Universe of Metro 2033 books, which the games and Glukhovsky keep drawing inspiration from.

Hopefully Khan makes a reappearance, even if he isn't part of the group on the train.

hmm...when the trailer was released i were quite disappointed that we going from moscow and travel through surface more than in the underground. Would be cool to see if there is an expansion in the future that solely focus on moscow metro again but set in much earlier, maybe sometimes like 12 years after the nuclear detonation.

I read a few articles, with the same quote, mentioning that the Metro Exodus story-line is suppose to be longer than Metro2033, Last-Light, and all the DLC's combined. after reading that, it reminded me I still have the Last light DLC's to play. Shit, can't believe I've missed out on them. Better late than never. At least it'll be a good, continuous, transition from one metro game to another

Do you have a link to the article? i think its quite possible since not only the map would be more larger, the scope and the setting are vast, i imagine several level detailling artyom journey from moscow metro to far east russia would be pretty massive

Also, nothing that you all have not seen before. it's the same live-action gameplay trailer that was posted several weeks ago; however, the music that once played, in the video, has been 'edited out.' Now all you hear is in-game sounds. It was supposedly release by one of the developers of 4A GAMES in this "un-cut" format.
